These days, I’m preparing myself for launch of “top business model” which I pushed it forward to may 30th. This is the first time in my life that I’m recording videos from myself talking about internet marketing and it has been really hard for me! believe it or not, this is something that I’d never think about and I could not imagine it coming.
It took me about 2 or 3 days to start feel a bit comfortable with camera but as a super shy person, I’ve discovered some ways to decrease mistakes and retakes and generally ways to overcome the fear of camera. So in this post I decided to share them with you so they might be a help to people who have the same situation as me 😀 1. Forget the camera I know this is almost impossible for someone who just started recording, but this is something that you have to do. Learn to act natural, and to make this happen, you should forget the camera. Imagine that you are talking to a friend and explaining something to your best friend or for some random person. This can help you over time to make great videos 2. Don’t get ready for it, just do it! This is something that I figured out for myself. It might not work for some people and it might work for some. As I said, I’m a very shy person so every time that I try to get ready for the camera, I mess it up! So accidentally, I recorded some videos without getting ready for them and what I saw in result was crazy. I recorded my best videos when I was not ready for it to talk. So if you are camera shy like me, try to not get ready for it. Just let the words come out when you get into it! It would be a good try… 3. Do it a lot to get used to it This is something very obvious. In order to learn anything challenging, you need to do a lots of training and same goes here. Try to record as much as you can, so you kind of lose that sense of being a camera shy person. you learn over time and get better at it every time you try. Get in front of camera and say random things, explain stuff like you are doing it yourself or talking to a friend. You will learn over time by doing this. Dr. Keith Souter, In his great book “How You Can Talk to Anyone” says:
Try to understand that you are not the center of attention. No one cares if you make a mistake when you are talking. Just say what you need to say like you are talking to a friend, and then leave the stage!
4. Remember, you don’t have to make it perfect This is a very important fact that you need to know. People who are camera shy (including myself) have this fear that they might not do “good”, and that is why they try to do it “as perfect as possible”. this is a big problem and this is exactly why many people are camera shy. They are afraid that they might not do good. I want you to know that, It’s totally normal to make mistakes in talking. I mean look at your everyday conversions. We all make mistakes in talking and it is same in videos. don’t afraid of making mistakes. Just be yourself. 5. Have some notes if you need to, but not long ones If you feel you really need to have some notes to at least take some points, it is always “OK” to have notes. But let me tell you my experience with camera notes. So I was going to write some small points about the video that I wanted to record. I started writing and in 2 minute, I have half of the page covered. Then I started the camera and recorded. Half of the time I was looking away and the other half, I was messing up everything! all I want to say is, if you want to have notes, make them short. Also as I said in point #2, try to just do it. Don’t get ready for it. just make it happen. Conclusion…. So at the end of this article, I want to pint out main and important advises here: 1. Forget the camera. Imagine that you are talking to a friend or something… 2. Don’t be ready for it, It makes you nervous. Just do it and say whatever you want. just let it go 3. Do it a lot. try to get used to being in front of a camera. Try to record a lots of videos from yourself so you will get a bit more comfortable with the camera and the situation. 4. You don’t have to make it perfect. Shy people want to make it perfect as possible, because they are afraid to fail or make mistakes. Remember, you don’t have to make the best presentation. People don’t care about small mistakes 5. If you need it, have some notes, but remember to not have long notes. They mess up everything and make you to look away more and more.
